Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Phuket Thailand Travel GuideThe Phuket Regatta was inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King, and has been held every year since. Now in its 16th year, the Regatta is widely recognised as the largest and most attractive in the region. The event is a unique blend of top standard racing, beautiful scenery and sailing conditions and outstanding social events. This year, the racing takes place from today until December 7, with the yachts divided into several classes: racing, cruising, ocean rover, multi-hull, classic keel boats, beach catamarans and sports boat. Competitors and their yachts come from all over the world and include large contingents from Asia, Australia, New Zealand, America and Europe.

The ceremony itself takes place in the form of a grand traditional Thai wedding, except that couples don diving gear and sign the marriage registration and exchange rings on the sea floor off Koh Kradan. Trang is now listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the venue for the largest underwater wedding ceremony in the world with over 30 couples participating in the event in 2001.
